Local Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning Talks about Mold Prevention for Awareness Month
HVAC business owner recognizes Mold Awareness Month by teaching residents about mold and ways to prevent it from growing in their homes
Lewis Center, OH (Grassroots Newswire) August 27, 2008 -- Some might say it is just something that is "gross," others might feel it is not a big deal, but what many might not realize is that mold is a pretty serious issue. Some molds cause allergic reactions which can lead to a few serious side effects. However, more dangerous molds like Stachybotrys or Chaetomium could cause serious illnesses like chronic bronchitis, cancer and even multiple sclerosis, according to a recent article on Mold-Help.org. In recognition of Mold Awareness Month this September, Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning of Central Ohio is explaining how serious mold is when not treated.

"Mold is something that many people don't think twice about, but if it grows and grows in your home, it could cause serious hazards," said Jeffrey Cullins, owner of Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning of Central Ohio.  "Mold is an allergen and an irritant and is usually associated with damp, musty locations in the home, like bathrooms, garages, basements and attics – it can also form and spread in air conditioning and heating systems. We at Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning want to help community members prevent mold from forming and growing in their heating and air conditioning systems."

Cullins offers advice to help local residents combat mold spores that can breed in HVAC systems. "The most important thing is to keep everything clean and dry," Cullins said.  "Mold thrives in damp and warm places, so decrease the humidity in your home by using a dehumidifier. Other steps include making sure there is proper ventilation in your home and seeing that air is circulating properly throughout each of the rooms."

When it comes to killing mold, Cullins said bleach and sunlight can kill the "little critters." If you can see mold growing on your throw rug, take it outside in direct sunlight to kill it. If you want to prevent mold from growing in the corner of your bathroom floors, use a water and bleach solution regularly when cleaning, Cullins said.

HVAC Business Helps Locals Economically Knock Temps Down

Lewis Center, OH, July 2, 2008 -- Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning owner offers advice on how to keep the temperature down in your home without the electricity bill rising.  When the temperatures soar, most of us take that as a sign to crank up the air conditioning. All the while, our wallets are the ones that suffer the most. Jeffrey Cullins, of Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning of Central Ohio, is showing residents in the local community how they can stay cool during the hotter months, while not having to face soaring electricity bills – and a major shortage of cash.

"Many people don't realize that they can have control over the dollar amount that appears on their electricity bill each month. All it really takes is a few simple energy efficient tips," Cullins said. "Just turning off your computer when you’re not using it and turning off the lights when you leave a room are the first steps to a more energy efficient home."

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the average residential electricity costs are expected to increase by about 3.7 percent this year. Therefore, Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning of Central Ohio offers tips to help residents conserve electricity – and their funds.

  • Turn off unnecessary lights because it will add more heat to the home. Try switching to energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs where light is absolutely needed to keep your home cool.
  • Do activities that require hot water, like washing dishes or clothes, in the early morning or late evening when you are not using big power electricity like your air conditioning and fans.
  • Using ceiling fans and portable fans that move the air throughout your home are good for cooling.
  • Close curtains during the hottest times of the day to block heat from entering the home.
  • Make sure window air conditioners are sized correctly because those that are too small will not cool your home well and those that are too big will use more energy than needed.
  • Be sure to keep filters to window air conditioning units clean, as well as filters for central air conditioning systems. Dirty filters can cause air conditioners to use more energy to keep rooms throughout the home cool.
  • It takes a lot of energy to turn the air conditioner on, so don't turn the system on and off throughout the day. Instead, keep it at a steady, comfortable temperature.

Local Business Helping Lewis Center Community Make the Air Just a Little Bit Cleaner

Lewis Center, OH, May 12, 2008 -- One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning franchise in Lewis Center recognizes National Clean Air Month in May by offering advice on how to improve the air quality in your home.  Indoor air pollution consistently ranks among the top five environmental risks to public health, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Indoor Environment Division of the Health Information Network. In an effort to educate local residents on the risks of indoor air pollution and to recognize National Clean Air Month in May, Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning offers advice on how to dramatically improve the air quality in your home.

"When most people think of pollution, they automatically think about the pollution of air – outdoors. But, actually, indoor air pollution is a huge issue, as well," said Jeffrey Cullins, owner of the Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning, located at 670 Radio Drive. "Polluted air not only affects our planet, it affects our health. And, indoor air pollution is a major factor when it comes to allergies, asthma, and other breathing problems."

According to Cullins, the best way to begin tackling the pollutants in your home is to learn about different kinds of air filters, and figure out which one best fits your needs. Before deciding whether to use an air cleaning device at all, there are a few things you should know, like whether an air filter will be the right tool to reduce adverse health problems, Cullins said.

According to the EPA, the following are some filter choices:

·         Mechanical Filters – This is probably the most common air filter people choose to use in their homes. It removes particles from the air by capturing them on the filter materials.

·         Electronic Cleaners – These air cleaners use a process called electrostatic attraction to trap charged particles. They draw air through an ionization section where particles in the air obtain an electrical charge so that they attach to surfaces such as walls or furniture, or attach to one another and settle faster.

·         Gas-phase Filters – These air filters remove gas and odors by using a material called a sorbent, which absorbs the pollutants. Some air cleaning devices with gas-phase filters may remove some gaseous pollutants and some of the related hazards, but none are expected to remove all of the gaseous pollutants present in the air of a typical home. For example, carbon monoxide is a dangerous gaseous pollutant that is not trapped by gas-phase filers.
